Description:

Waypoint’s client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing complex structures for high-performance multi-rotor drone systems, from initial concept through to production. You will be responsible for integrating ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) and radio transceiver equipment from various suppliers, ensuring they are compatible with our modular payload system. Your expertise in vibration analysis and thermal design will be crucial in supporting the mechanical engineering team. Additionally, your contributions will be key to maturing the design process and advancing the product roadmap by helping to develop new features and products. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, creativity, and a forward-thinking approach to engineering challenges.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the design of complex structures for high-performance multi-rotor drone systems, guiding projects from concept through production.
  • Integrate ISR and radio transceiver equipment from various suppliers, ensuring compatibility with our modular payload system.
  • Provide technical support to the mechanical engineering team, particularly in vibration analysis (FEA) and thermal management solutions.
  • Contribute to the maturation of the design process, including Trade Studies, Concept, PRD (Product Requirements Document), and CDR (Critical Design Review).
  • Assist in the development of new features and products on the product roadmap, optimizing designs for quality and cost efficiency.
  • Utilize advanced CAD tools, including ECAD/MCAD exchange formats (IDF/IDX), to optimize new and existing designs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development and deployment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Defense or Aerospace industry.
  • Proven track record in product development.
  • Demonstrated experience in vibration mode analysis (FEA) and thermal management solutions.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks.
  • Experience in electronics packaging.
  • Familiarity with ECAD/MCAD exchange formats (IDF/IDX).
  • MIL-STD design experience is a plus.
  • Experience with drones and/or autonomous systems is a plus.
  • Strong initiative, goal-oriented, and dedicated to meeting company objectives.
