Waypoint’s client is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Medium Range Targets Program Office. This senior-level role provides technical leadership across multiple programs developing next-generation reentry vehicles, rocket motors, and countermeasures, ensuring realistic and reliable test environments for the Nation’s missile defense systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Medium Range Targets Program Office engineering activities with MDA Systems Engineering teams, Product Offices, Prime Contractors, and Other Government Agencies (OGAs).
  • Obtain and review technical information from the prime contractor on behalf of the Government customer.
  • Own the technical milestone review process, ensuring all entrance and exit criteria are met.
  • Facilitate Government IPTs and functional areas (systems engineering, quality, safety, logistics, etc.) as needed.
  • Manage the technical baseline of system designs, ensuring proper requirement flow-down and compliance verification.
  • Interpret flight test requirements and coordinate with stakeholders to achieve a shared understanding.
  • Review and validate systems engineering documentation, ensuring specifications align with system needs.
  • Support configuration-controlled environments, ensuring compliance with proper handling procedures.
  • Apply engineering rigor to solve technical challenges, providing clear and actionable recommendations to leadership.
Required:
  • Master’s degree in STEM with 12+ years of experience in missile defense-related or other large, complex DoD programs/projects, OR Bachelor’s degree with 20+ years of experience.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Familiarity with MDA and/or DoD programs and processes.
  • Strong understanding of system interface requirements and requirements management.
  • Experience writing, presenting, and coordinating product and engineering plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas in presentations and documentation.
  • Experience working in a configuration-controlled environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a team, or in leadership roles.
Desired:
  • STEM-related degree with specialization in systems engineering.
  • Familiarity with MDA systems engineering processes.
  • Experience supporting technical proposal development and evaluation.
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and practices.
