Waypoint’s client is seeking a Targets Product Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Long Range Program Office (DTL). This role provides engineering expertise across multiple product lines developing next-generation reentry vehicles, rocket motors, and support equipment—ensuring realistic test environments for the Nation’s missile defense systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the DTL Engineering team in all aspects of target system design, analysis, and testing, including requirements development, production, qualification, integration, and flight testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional experts to provide engineering analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all deliverables are completed on time and meet technical standards.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in product/component failure investigations and support formal review boards.
  • Represent the customer’s interests in working groups, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and program forums.
  • Develop technical documentation, reports, and recommendations that support system design and performance improvements.
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering strongly preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience on missile defense-related or other complex, large-scale DoD programs/projects.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desired:
  • Hands-on experience with solid rocket motors, bulkhead initiators, ordnance modules, Flight Termination Systems, motor cases, aging & surveillance, muzzle design, and static fire testing.
  • Knowledge of transportation modes and impacts for rocket motors.
  • Familiarity with MDA and DoD programs and processes.
  • Experience supporting MDA flight tests, analysis, and review activities.
  • Experience with development of rocket motors, ground support launch equipment, and reentry vehicles.
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel.
