Waypoint’s customer is seeking a Unified Communications Engineer to support the design, enhancement, and maintenance of enterprise communications infrastructure within a secure classified environment. This role requires hands-on engineering expertise in Unified Communications (UC), LAN/WAN technologies, and system integration to ensure resilient, scalable, and secure collaboration services across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze the existing Unified Communications (UC) infrastructure and provide recommendations for improvement and modernization.
  • Engineer new UC solutions to meet emerging requirements and design enhancements to existing UC services, including identifying and planning hardware refresh cycles.
  • Perform Analyses of Alternatives (AoA) for periodic UC hardware refreshes while following established Change Management processes.
  • Create and document network configurations, ensuring accurate and detailed technical documentation for all changes and implementations.
  • Conduct design, project management, acceptance testing, and vendor evaluation activities to ensure solution quality and compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine communications requirements, prepare detailed engineering specifications, and ensure functional performance objectives are met.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of all systems documentation and configuration records.
  • Support the design, installation, testing, and operationalization of UC system components, ensuring interoperability across enterprise systems.
  • Participate in all aspects of service delivery — from feasibility and connectivity assessments to technical and operational documentation preparation.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess an Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III certification (per DoD 8570 requirements).
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing trouble ticket systems such as ServiceNow or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of LAN/WAN and Unified Communications (UC) technologies, tools, and services.
  • Proven experience functioning as a Network Administrator in an enterprise or DoD environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced operational setting.
  • Professional-level Cisco certification (e.g., CCNP, CCIE) highly desired.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Desired:
  • ITIL v4 Foundations certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with cloud-based Unified Communications solutions (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex Cloud).
  • Relevant security certifications focusing on networking and unified communications (e.g., CCNP Security, CASP+).
  • Experience supporting or integrating Video Teleconferencing (VTC) systems within enterprise UC platforms.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
